The inductor is similar in structure to a transformer but has only one winding. An inductor has a certain inductance which only impedes the change of current. If the inductor has no current flowing through it, it will attempt to prevent the current from flowing through it when the circuit is switched on. If the inductor is in a state of current flow, it will attempt to hold the current constant when the circuit is disconnected. Inductor is also called choke, reactor, dynamic reactor.
